Drain Camera Inspections and Jet Blasting in Geelong
When a drain keeps blocking, guessing gets expensive. A drain camera inspection puts a waterproof camera on a flexible cable into the pipe through an inspection opening or fixture, and sends a live picture back to a screen. Instead of guessing, we can see what is causing the problem – roots, a crack, a dropped section of pipe or a build-up – before anyone talks about digging.
Jet blasting is how we clear what the camera finds. A high-pressure water jetter sends water through a hose and nozzle that breaks up the blockage, cuts back roots and scours the pipe walls, flushing the debris down the line. In the last 12 months we’ve done 168 jobs with the drain camera and 207 with the high-pressure jetter across Geelong.
Used together, the two answer the questions that matter: what is wrong, where is it, and does the pipe need fixing or just a good clean?
Our Drain Camera and Jetting Services
Three jobs we do most with the camera and the jetter, from diagnosing a problem drain to clearing out roots.
CCTV Drain Camera Inspections
A CCTV drain inspection is the quickest way to see the condition of an underground pipe without digging it up. We use it when a drain keeps blocking, after clearing heavy roots, when there’s a sewer smell with no obvious cause, and before renovations or extensions that will build near existing drains.
We explain what the camera shows in plain English: whether the pipe is sound, what is wrong if it isn’t, and what your options are.
High-Pressure Jet Blasting
Jet blasting clears blockages that a plunger or hand tool can’t reach: tree roots, hardened grease, silt, sand and the scale that builds up inside older pipes. Because the water scours the full width of the pipe, it removes the build-up rather than just punching a hole through it.
We jet sewer lines, kitchen and laundry drains and stormwater drains, then run water through to confirm the line is flowing freely before we pack up.
Tree Roots in Drains
Tree roots are a major cause of blocked drains. Barwon Water lists them alongside wipes and fat as a common cause of sewer blockages, and the City of Greater Geelong says tree root intrusion into pipes, both private and council-owned, is its biggest cause of pipe damage. Roots find their way into joints and cracks, then grow into a mat that catches everything flushed down the line.
Jetting cuts the roots back and clears the pipe. The camera then shows how they got in. If the pipe is intact, regular maintenance clearing may be all you need; if it’s cracked or broken, repairing or replacing that section stops the roots coming back through the same gap.
When a Drain Camera Inspection Makes Sense
You don’t need a camera for every blocked sink. These are the situations where seeing inside the pipe saves time and money.
Blockages That Keep Coming Back
If the same drain has blocked two or three times, something in the pipe is catching waste. The camera shows whether it’s roots, a crack, a sag or a bad joint, so the next fix is the last one rather than another clear-out.
Buying a Property
We offer pre-purchase plumbing inspections, and a drain camera check can be added. It shows the condition of underground pipes you can’t see at an open home, so you know about roots or damage before you sign.
Before Renovating or Extending
Building a deck, extension or new bathroom over or near old drains is a risk if you don’t know their condition. A camera check before work starts shows where the pipes run and what shape they’re in, so you can plan around them.
After Clearing Tree Roots
Once the jetter has cleared the roots, the camera shows how much damage they left behind. That tells you whether regular maintenance will keep the drain flowing, or whether a damaged section needs repair or replacement.
Common Drain Problems a Camera Finds
These are the faults that sit behind most recurring blockages and unexplained smells.
- Tree Root Intrusion: Fine roots get in through joints and cracks and thicken over time. Left alone, they can fill the pipe completely.
- Cracked or Broken Pipes: Ground movement, roots and age crack older pipes. Debris catches on the broken edges and blocks the line again and again.
- Displaced Joints: When two pipe lengths shift out of line, the lip catches waste. The camera shows exactly which joint has moved.
- Sagging Sections: A section of pipe that has dropped holds water and waste instead of letting it run through, so it keeps silting up.
- Grease and Scale Build-Up: Kitchen drains narrow slowly as fat coats the pipe walls. Jetting removes it; the camera confirms the pipe is clear afterwards.
- Foreign Objects: Wipes, sanitary items and the odd toy end up lodged in the line. The camera finds them so we can remove them.
Fast Help When a Drain Can’t Wait
If sewage is coming up through a gully, shower or floor waste, the camera can wait – the first job is clearing it. We’re on call 24/7 for emergencies and will give you an honest arrival time when you call. Once the line is flowing, we can come back to the camera to work out why it blocked. For everyday blocked sinks and toilets, see our main blocked drains Geelong page.
Planned camera inspections, pre-purchase checks and root clearing are booked at a time that suits you, often same-day whenever scheduling allows.

Our Simple Drain Inspection Process
Here’s how a camera inspection or jetting job runs from start to finish.
Step 1 – Contact Our Team
Tell us what’s happening – how often the drain blocks, which fixtures are affected, any trees nearby – and we book a time.
Step 2 – Access and Price
We locate an inspection opening or suitable access point and agree a fixed price for the inspection, the jetting or both.
Step 3 – Inspect and Clear
The camera goes in to find the problem and the jetter clears it. Where the line is fully blocked, we clear it first so the camera can see.
Step 4 – Explain Your Options
We explain what we found and recommend the practical next step: nothing, regular maintenance, or a repair to the damaged section.
Drain Camera Inspection and Jetting Costs – What to Expect
The cost depends on the job. A straightforward camera inspection from an easy-to-reach inspection opening is quicker than one where the opening is buried and has to be uncovered first. For jetting, the length of the line and how much root growth or build-up is in it make the difference. Doing the clean and the inspection in the same visit usually saves a second trip, and after-hours callouts can affect the price.
We agree a fixed price before we start, with no hidden fees. One thing to know: Barwon Water says it won’t cover CCTV work used to locate a blockage unless it asked for it, so if you think the problem might be in Barwon Water’s part of the sewer, read who pays for a blocked sewer before booking.

Drain Jet Blasting & CCTV Camera Inspection FAQs
A drain camera inspection is a look inside an underground pipe using a waterproof camera on a flexible cable. It shows roots, cracks, displaced joints, sagging sections and blockages on a screen, so the problem can be diagnosed without digging up the yard first.
Used properly, jetting is a standard way to clean drain pipes. A pipe that is already badly cracked or broken is a different story – jetting won’t repair it, and the damage needs to be found first. That’s why we check with the camera when a drain keeps blocking.
Tree roots get into drains through joints and cracks, drawn by the water and nutrients inside. Once in, fine roots thicken and spread into a mat that catches waste. Jetting cuts them back, and a camera inspection shows where they got in and whether the pipe is damaged.
Yes. The camera goes in through an existing inspection opening or fixture and shows the inside of the pipe on a screen. Digging only happens if the camera finds damage that needs repairing, and we agree the price for that before anything is dug up.
It’s worth considering, especially for an older home or one with large trees near the sewer line. We offer pre-purchase plumbing inspections that can include a drain camera check, so you know about roots or broken pipes before you commit rather than after.
Usually not. Barwon Water says it won’t cover CCTV work used to locate a blockage unless it requested it, and it doesn’t cover work on your private sewer drains. If you think the blockage is on Barwon Water’s side, call Barwon Water on 1300 656 007 first.
