Leaking Tap Repair and Everyday Fixes in Geelong
A dripping tap, a toilet that won’t stop running or a shower that leaks every time you turn it off is a small problem that wastes water every hour it’s left. Leaking tap repair, toilet and cistern repairs, shower leaks and sink and basin work are the everyday jobs we do most across Geelong, the Bellarine and the Surf Coast.
In the last 12 months we’ve done 598 tap jobs, 357 toilet jobs, 349 shower jobs and 341 sink jobs (one job can cover more than one of these). We diagnose why something is leaking, fix the cause rather than patching the symptom, and make sure everything’s working properly before we leave.
If your toilet is blocked rather than leaking, see our blocked toilet plumber page. For a sink or shower that drains slowly, start with our blocked drains service.
Our Tap, Toilet, Shower & Sink Services
From a single worn washer to a full set of new tapware, here’s what we repair and install.
Leaking Tap Repairs and Replacements
Most dripping taps come down to one of three things: a worn washer or jumper valve in an older-style tap, a worn ceramic cartridge in a mixer, or a damaged seat that the washer closes against. We find which one it is, replace or reseat the worn part, and check the spindle and handle while the tap is apart.
If the tapware is corroded, worn out or parts are no longer available, we’ll tell you and quote to replace it instead. We repair and replace kitchen mixers, basin taps, shower and bath mixers, laundry taps and garden taps.
Toilet and Cistern Repairs
A toilet that keeps running, refills on its own or trickles into the bowl usually has a worn inlet valve or flush valve seal inside the cistern. Water on the floor around the pan is a different problem: it’s often the pan connector or seal, and it needs fixing before it damages the floor.
We repair cisterns, replace inlet and flush valves, fix leaking pan connections and replace toilets that are cracked or past saving. We also install new toilet suites, on their own or as part of a bathroom renovation.
Shower, Sink and Basin Repairs
A shower head that drips after it’s turned off usually points to a worn washer or cartridge in the shower tap or mixer, not the head itself. Water showing up outside the shower, or stains on the ceiling or the wall behind it, can mean a leaking pipe or fitting in the wall, so we track down the source first. Here’s how plumbers find hidden leaks.
Under the sink, we fix leaking wastes, traps and flexible hoses. We also install new kitchen sinks, vanity basins, laundry troughs and mixers, lined up with your benchtop and cabinetry.
Fixtures We Repair and Install
Every fixture leaks in its own way. Here’s what usually goes wrong with each one, and what we do about it.
Taps & mixers
Dripping spouts, leaking handles and stiff or noisy taps. Older taps usually need a new washer or a reseat; mixers usually need a new cartridge. Where the tapware is corroded or parts can’t be found, we quote a like-for-like replacement or the new tapware you choose.
Toilets & cisterns
Running cisterns, slow refills, weak flushes, loose seats and leaks at the base of the pan. We replace inlet and flush valves, pan connectors and seals, and fit a new toilet suite when a cracked pan or an old cistern isn’t worth repairing.
Showers
Drips from the shower head, leaking mixers, poor flow and water escaping outside the shower. We repair or replace shower mixers and taps, replace heads and rails, and track down leaks in the wall before they damage plaster, framing or the room next door.
Sinks, basins & troughs
Leaking wastes and traps, failed flexible hoses, cracked basins and worn-out kitchen sinks. We fix leaks under the sink and install new kitchen sinks, vanity basins and laundry troughs, connected to your existing water and waste or moved during a renovation.
Common Tap, Toilet and Shower Problems We Fix
These are the leaks and faults we see most often in Geelong homes.
- Tap that won’t stop dripping: Usually a worn washer, cartridge or seat. Turning the handle harder only wears the washer out faster.
- Toilet running all the time: A worn inlet valve or flush valve seal lets water run into the bowl. Barwon Water’s dye test shows it: add 6–8 drops of food dye to the cistern, wait at least five minutes without flushing, and colour in the bowl means a leak.
- Water on the bathroom floor: Water around the toilet pan, vanity or shower base points to a failed seal, connector or pipe. Left alone, it can lift flooring and rot timber.
- Weak flow from one tap or shower: Usually a blocked aerator, a scaled-up shower head or a failing cartridge. If every tap in the house is weak, it’s a water pressure problem rather than a tap problem.
- Burst flexible hose under the sink: Braided hoses under sinks and basins wear out and can burst without warning. Turn off the isolation tap or the water main, then call us.
- Wobbly or cracked toilet: A loose pan or a cracked cistern can start leaking at any time. We refix it or replace the suite.
Quick, Local Repairs Across Geelong
Most tap and toilet problems aren’t emergencies, but they’re annoying and they waste water, so we book them in as soon as we can, often the same day when the schedule allows. When you call, you speak to a local, not a call centre.
If water is pouring out and you can’t stop it, a burst hose or a split pipe is an emergency. Turn off the water at the main and call 0447 134 432: our emergency plumbers are on call 24/7, including weekends and public holidays, and will give you an honest arrival time on the phone.

Tap and Toilet Repair Costs – What to Expect
The cost of a tap, toilet or shower repair depends on what has worn out, how easy it is to reach and whether the fixture can be repaired or needs replacing. A worn washer is a quicker job than a mixer cartridge behind a tiled wall, and a cistern valve is simpler than replacing a cracked toilet suite.
We don’t quote blind. We look at the job, explain your options and give you a fixed price before we start, with zero hidden fees. If you’re choosing new tapware or a new toilet, tell us what you have in mind so the quote covers the right fittings.

Tap, Toilet, Shower & Sink Repairs FAQs
A leaking tap is fixed by replacing whatever has worn: the washer and jumper valve in an older tap, or the ceramic cartridge in a mixer. If the seat inside the tap body is damaged, it needs reseating too, or the new washer will wear out quickly. Turn the water off before anything is taken apart, and if the tap keeps dripping after a new washer, call a plumber.
A toilet that keeps running usually has a worn inlet valve that doesn’t shut off, or a worn flush valve seal that lets water leak into the bowl. Barwon Water’s dye test confirms it: add 6–8 drops of food dye to the cistern, don’t flush for at least five minutes, and if colour appears in the bowl, the cistern is leaking. Both valves can be replaced without replacing the toilet.
Yes. A drip wastes water around the clock, it gets worse as the washer or cartridge wears, and a tap left dripping for too long can damage its seat, which turns a small repair into a bigger one. Fixing it early is usually the quickest and least disruptive option.
A shower that drips after it’s turned off almost always has a worn washer or cartridge in the shower tap or mixer, not a faulty shower head. Water appearing outside the shower, on the ceiling below or behind the wall is a different problem: a leaking pipe, fitting or seal that should be checked before it causes damage.
Yes. We install new kitchen sinks, vanity basins, laundry troughs and tapware, connected to your existing water and waste or moved as part of a renovation. Tell us what you’re fitting and we’ll give you a fixed price before we start.
Yes, but a blocked toilet is a different job from a leaking or running one. If the water rises in the bowl or won’t go down, see our blocked toilet page for what to do and how we clear it. This page covers toilets that run, leak or need replacing.
Yes. We regularly work with property managers and real estate agencies on repairs in rental homes across Geelong, from dripping taps and running toilets to leaking showers. If you’re a landlord, our rental plumbing checklist explains the standards that apply.
