Blocked Drain Clearing Across Geelong
A blocked drain rarely fixes itself. It starts with a sink or shower draining slowly, then the toilet gurgles, then something overflows – often the overflow relief gully outside, or the lowest shower or floor waste inside. We find where the blockage is, clear it properly and tell you what caused it, so you know whether it’s likely to come back.
Drains are a big part of our work. In the last 12 months we’ve done 479 drain and sewer jobs across Geelong, including 168 jobs with our drain camera and 207 with our high-pressure jetter. We’re a local, family-run business based near Leopold, and when you call you speak to a plumber, not a call centre.
Whether it’s a kitchen sink full of grease, a sewer line packed with tree roots or a stormwater pipe full of silt, the job is the same: find it, clear it, check it’s flowing, and leave the place clean.
Our Blocked Drain Services
From one slow basin to a sewer line full of roots, we bring the right drain-clearing equipment for the job and check the pipe is running freely before we leave.
Sink, Shower & Toilet Drain Clearing
Most household blockages start close to the fixture: hair and soap in a shower waste, grease and food scraps in a kitchen sink, lint in a laundry trough, or too much paper in a toilet. We clear the trap and the pipe behind it, then run water through to make sure it drains at full speed.
If more than one fixture is affected, the blockage is further down the line, and we go looking for it there rather than just clearing the fixture you can see. Toilet-specific problems have their own page: blocked toilet repairs.
Sewer Blockages & Tree Roots
The sewer line carries everything from your toilets, showers and sinks out to Barwon Water’s sewer. When it blocks, every fixture in the house is affected. Tree roots, wet wipes and fat build-up are the usual culprits – Barwon Water lists all three as common causes of sewer blockages.
We use a high-pressure water jetter to cut through roots and flush the pipe clean, then check the line with the drain camera when the blockage looks like it could come back. More on how that works: drain jet blasting and CCTV camera inspection.
Recurring Blockages & Broken Drain Pipes
A drain that blocks every few months usually has a reason: roots getting in through a cracked joint, a section of pipe that has dropped and holds water, or a broken pipe collecting debris. Clearing it again only buys time.
The drain camera shows us what is going on inside the pipe, so we can explain your options plainly – keep it maintained, or repair or replace the damaged section so it stops happening. We quote that work as a fixed price before anything is dug up.
Drains We Clear
Different drains block for different reasons. Here’s what we see most, and what usually causes it.
Kitchen & Laundry Drains
Grease, oil and food scraps set hard as they cool and narrow the pipe a little more every week. Laundry troughs collect lint and grit. We clear the build-up, not just a hole through it, so the drain stays clear for longer.
Bathroom Drains
Hair, soap scum and toothpaste build up in shower wastes, basins and baths until the water sits around your feet. Floor wastes in older bathrooms can also block or dry out and start to smell. We clear them and check the line beyond.
Sewer Lines
The main pipe from the house to the sewer is where roots, wipes and broken pipes cause trouble. Signs include more than one fixture draining slowly, gurgling when you flush, and the gully outside overflowing. These need a jetter, not a plunger.
Stormwater Drains
Leaves, silt and roots block the pipes that carry rain from your downpipes and yard pits to the kerb. When they block, downpipes overflow and water pools against the house. We clear them with the jetter and repair broken sections.
Common Blocked Drain Problems We Fix
If any of these sound familiar, there’s a blockage building somewhere in the line.
- Slow Sinks and Showers: Water that takes minutes to drain usually means a partial blockage. Caught early, it’s a quick clear rather than a callout to a flooded bathroom.
- Gurgling Drains and Toilets: Gurgling when another fixture drains means air is being pushed past a blockage. It’s a common early sign of a sewer problem.
- Sewage Smells: A sewer smell inside or around the house points to a blockage, a dry floor waste or a broken pipe. We find which one it is.
- Overflowing Gully or Inspection Opening: Sewage coming up through the overflow relief gully or inspection opening in the yard means the line is blocked. Stop using water and call straight away.
- Tree Roots in the Sewer: Roots find their way into joints and cracks and grow into a mat that catches everything. Jetting clears them, and the camera shows whether the pipe is damaged.
- Wipes and Grease Build-Up: Wet wipes don’t break down like toilet paper, and fat sets solid as it cools. Together they make stubborn blockages that a plunger won’t shift.
Fast Response When Sewage Is Backing Up
Sewage coming up through a shower, floor waste or the gully outside is an emergency. We’re on call 24/7, including weekends and public holidays, and for emergencies we’ll give you an honest arrival time when you call. Until we arrive, stop running water and don’t flush – every litre has to go somewhere. Our emergency plumbing checklist covers what else to do while you wait.
For a drain that’s slow but still working, we book you in for same-day service whenever scheduling allows. Either way, you speak straight to a plumber who asks a few questions to work out where the blockage is likely to be.

Our Simple Blocked Drain Process
From the first call to a drain that runs freely, here’s how a blocked drain job works.
Step 1 – Contact Our Team
Call or send the form. Tell us which fixtures are affected and whether anything is overflowing, and we’ll book a time that matches how urgent it is.
Step 2 – Find the Blockage
We check which fixtures are blocked, open the inspection point and work out where the blockage sits. You get a fixed price before we start.
Step 3 – Clear It and Check It
We clear the line with the right equipment – drain-clearing tools or the high-pressure jetter – then run water through and use the camera where the cause needs confirming.
Step 4 – Explain and Prevent
We show you what caused it and what will stop it happening again, whether that’s a change at the sink or a repair to a damaged pipe.
Blocked Drain Costs – What to Expect
The cost of clearing a blocked drain depends on where the blockage is and what’s causing it. A soft blockage near a fixture is a quick job. Tree roots deep in the sewer line take longer and need the jetter, and a broken pipe may need a camera inspection and a repair. Access matters too: an inspection opening that is easy to reach saves time, while a buried one has to be uncovered first. After-hours callouts can also affect the price.
Whatever the job, we assess it first and give you a fixed price before we start, with no hidden fees. If the blockage turns out to be in Barwon Water’s section of the sewer, Barwon Water may cover reasonable costs – our guide to who pays for a blocked sewer explains how that works.

Blocked Drains FAQs
Check the inspection shaft or overflow relief gully in your yard. Barwon Water says that if it overflows constantly when nothing in the house is being used, call Barwon Water on 1300 656 007. If it only overflows when you use water, the blockage is likely in your own pipes and you need a plumber.
Yes, in most cases. We offer same-day service whenever scheduling allows, and for emergencies like sewage overflowing we’re on call 24/7 and will give you an honest arrival time over the phone. Call 0447 134 432 and you’ll speak straight to a plumber.
A drain that keeps blocking usually has a fault in the pipe, not just a build-up. Tree roots in cracked joints, a sagging section that holds water, or a broken pipe will keep catching waste. A drain camera inspection shows which one it is, so the fix lasts.
No. Chemical drain cleaners can damage pipes and make the job more hazardous for whoever clears it next. A plunger or hot (not boiling) water is a safer first try for a single slow sink. Our guide on how to unblock a drain safely covers what is worth trying.
Yes. We work with property managers, landlords and tenants across Geelong. Under Victorian renting rules, a blocked or broken toilet system is an urgent repair, and the rental provider organises and pays for repairs the renter didn’t cause. Tenants should contact their agent first using the emergency number they were given.
Yes. We look at the problem first, explain what’s involved and agree a fixed price before any work begins. If the job changes – say the camera shows a broken pipe – we stop and talk it through with you before doing anything extra.
Yes. When the camera shows a cracked, broken or collapsed section, we can repair or replace that part of the sewer or stormwater line. We explain what we found, what the options are and the fixed price before any digging starts.
