Dishwasher Installation and Appliance Connections in Geelong
A new dishwasher or washing machine should be a simple swap, until the old tap won’t turn off, the hose doesn’t reach, or there’s no drain point where the new one needs to go. Dishwasher installation, washing machine hook-ups and fridge water connections are everyday jobs for us across Geelong, the Bellarine and the Surf Coast.
In the last 12 months we’ve done 129 dishwasher, washing machine and fridge connections. We connect the water supply and the drain, fit isolation taps where they’re missing, test for leaks with the appliance running, and leave everything tidy.
Appliance connections often come up during a kitchen or laundry update. If you’re planning one, we can set up the water and drainage before the cabinets go in, and our post on common renovation plumbing mistakes covers what to plan for.
Our Appliance Connection Services
We connect the appliance you’ve chosen to your water supply and drainage, and make sure it doesn’t leak.
Dishwasher Installation
Most dishwashers connect to a water tap under the kitchen sink and drain into the sink waste. We fit a dual or isolation tap if there isn’t one, connect the inlet hose, and connect the drain hose to the sink waste the way the manufacturer’s instructions require, so dirty water can’t run back into the machine.
If the dishwasher is going somewhere new, such as an island bench or the other side of the kitchen, we run a new water line and waste connection to suit.
Washing Machine Installation
A washing machine needs hot and cold taps, or just cold, and somewhere to drain: usually the laundry trough or a standpipe in the wall. We replace stiff or leaking laundry taps, fit new inlet hoses and make sure the drain hose is secured so it can’t pop out mid-cycle.
Moving the laundry, or putting the washing machine in a new spot, means new hot and cold points and a new drain. We plan the run so it’s neat, accessible and easy to service later.
Fridge Water Connections
Fridges with chilled water or an ice maker need a cold water line with its own isolation valve. We tee off the nearest cold supply, fit the valve where you can reach it, and run the line neatly to the fridge space, with enough slack to pull the fridge out for cleaning.
If your fridge uses a water filter, we can include it in the connection. For filtered drinking water at the kitchen sink, see our water filter installation service.
Appliances We Connect
Every appliance has its own water and drainage needs, and these are the four we connect most often.
Dishwashers
New or replacement dishwashers under a bench or in an island. We connect the water supply and the drain to the sink waste, fit an isolation tap if needed, and run the machine to check for leaks before we leave you to it.
Washing machines
Front and top loaders in laundries, cupboards and garages. We fit or replace the hot and cold taps, connect new hoses, and make sure the drain hose goes into the trough or standpipe securely, so a full drain cycle can’t spill onto the floor.
Fridges with water and ice
Fridges with chilled water dispensers or ice makers need a cold water line with an isolation valve. We run it neatly from the nearest cold supply, leave enough slack to move the fridge, and check every joint for leaks once it’s connected.
New or moved connections
Putting an appliance somewhere it’s never been? We run new hot and cold water points and new waste connections for dishwashers and washing machines in renovations, laundry moves and kitchen updates, ready before the cabinets and benchtops go in.
Common Appliance Connection Problems We Fix
These are the problems that usually bring people to us before or after an appliance goes in.
- Leak behind the washing machine: Usually a perished inlet hose, a worn washer at the tap or a drain hose that has slipped. We find which one and replace it.
- Water under the dishwasher: Often a loose inlet fitting or drain connection under the sink. Turn the dishwasher’s tap off and call us before the cabinet base swells; if the source isn’t obvious, here’s how plumbers find hidden leaks.
- Laundry tap won’t turn off: Old laundry taps seize and leak. We repair or replace them so the machine can be isolated properly.
- No tap for the new appliance: Older kitchens often have no spare connection under the sink. We fit a dual tap or a new isolation valve.
- Banging when the machine fills: Washing machines and dishwashers close their valves fast, which can cause water hammer. Our water pressure and pressure limiting valve service can sort it.
Getting Your New Appliance Running
A new dishwasher or washing machine sitting unconnected in the kitchen isn’t much use, so we book connections in as soon as we can, often the same day when the schedule allows. Tell us the appliance and where it’s going when you book, so we bring the right fittings.
If a hose or connection has burst and water is spreading, turn off the tap behind the appliance or the water main and call 0447 134 432. Our emergency plumbers are available 24/7.

Dishwasher Installation Costs – What to Expect
The cost of connecting a dishwasher, washing machine or fridge depends on what’s already there. A like-for-like swap onto an existing tap and drain point is the simplest job. Adding a new tap or isolation valve, running a new water line to a fridge, or putting in a new drain point takes more time and materials.
Access matters too: tight cabinets, island benches and long runs all add work. We look at the job, tell you exactly what’s involved and give you a fixed price before we start, with zero hidden fees. If the new spot needs a power point, that’s a job for a licensed electrician, and we’ll let you know before we start.
Appliance Installation Across Geelong
We connect appliances right across the region, from Newcomb, Whittington and St Albans Park to Grovedale, Geelong West, Mount Duneed and Armstrong Creek, plus the Bellarine and the Surf Coast.
New homes, older homes and rentals all have different set-ups, so tell us what you’ve got and we’ll make sure we arrive with the right fittings.
Dishwasher, Washing Machine & Fridge Connections FAQs
You need a plumber if the dishwasher needs a new water point, a new waste connection or pipes moved, because in Victoria plumbing work must be done by a licensed plumber, or a registered plumber working under one. A straight swap onto a sound existing tap and drain point is usually a quick job for us.
A like-for-like dishwasher swap onto existing connections is usually a short job. It takes longer if we need to fit a new tap, run a new water line or add a drain connection, or if the cabinet space needs adjusting. We’ll tell you what’s involved when we quote.
Yes. We can run new hot and cold water points and a new drain, or standpipe, to put a washing machine in a new spot, such as a garage, cupboard or relocated laundry. We plan the run so it’s neat and easy to reach for servicing later.
A fridge water line is connected to the nearest cold water supply, with its own isolation valve so the fridge can be turned off without shutting off the house. We run the line neatly to the fridge space, leave enough slack to pull the fridge out, and check every joint for leaks.
A washing machine leaking at the back is usually a perished inlet hose, a worn washer where the hose meets the tap, or a drain hose that has slipped out of the trough or standpipe. Turn off the taps behind the machine and call us; we’ll find the cause and fix it.
Only if the appliance needs a new or moved power point. That’s a job for a licensed electrician rather than a plumber, so if you’re putting a dishwasher or washing machine somewhere new, check there’s a suitable power point first. We’ll let you know if we spot that one is needed when we quote.
