No. In Victoria, gasfitting is its own class of plumbing work, and a plumber has to be licensed or registered in each class of work they do. A plumber approved for water or drainage work isn’t automatically allowed to do gas work. You can ask to see their photo ID card, which lists the work they’re approved for. Do I need a compliance certificate for gas work?

For installation work, yes. In Victoria a compliance certificate is required, whatever the job’s value, for installing, replacing or relocating a gas appliance like a cooktop, heater or hot water unit, and for installing or altering gas piping. Only a licensed plumber can issue one, and it must be given to you within five days of the work being finished.

Can you install my new gas cooktop?

Yes. We connect gas cooktops and ovens to the gas supply, check the connection for leaks and make sure every burner lights and runs properly. Can I connect a gas appliance myself?
