Gutter Replacement & Repairs in Geelong
Gutters have one job: catch the water coming off the roof and send it down the downpipes into the stormwater drain. When they rust, sag, leak at the joints or fill with leaves, that water ends up where it does damage – in the eaves, down the walls, against the slab and into the garden beds beside the house.
In the last 12 months we’ve done 162 gutter and downpipe jobs across Geelong, the Bellarine and the Surf Coast, including gutter cleans. Whether it’s one dripping corner or a full run that’s rusted out, we find out why the water is going the wrong way before we fix anything.
Replacing or altering gutters and downpipes is roofing (stormwater) work under Victoria’s Plumbing Regulations 2018, so it’s a job for a plumber registered or licensed in that class, not a general handyman.
Our Gutter & Downpipe Services
Whether a whole run has rusted out or one joint drips, we fix the cause and make sure the water goes where it should.
Gutter Replacement
When gutters have rusted through in several places, sag between brackets or leak at most joints, patching stops making sense. We remove the old gutter, check the fascia it fixes to, and install new gutter with the right fall to the downpipes so the water drains instead of sitting.
If the downpipes are too few, too small or in the wrong place, we sort those at the same time, so the new gutters don’t overflow in the first heavy rain.
Gutter & Downpipe Repairs
Not every gutter needs replacing. A leaking joint or corner can be resealed, a sagging section re-hung, a rusted length replaced on its own, and a split or disconnected downpipe repaired.
If a downpipe backs up because the pipe below ground is blocked, the problem is in the stormwater drain, and our stormwater drain service picks up where the downpipe ends.
Gutter Cleaning
Leaves, seed pods, moss and grit build up fastest under trees. Blocked gutters overflow in heavy rain and hold water against the metal, which speeds up rust.
A clean before winter – and more often if you’re under trees – keeps everything flowing. While we’re up there, we check the downpipes, rainheads and box gutter outlets and tell you if anything else needs attention.
Gutter & Downpipe Parts We Work On
Your roof drainage is a system. When one part fails, the rest of it copes with the overflow.
Eaves Gutters
The gutters along the edge of the roof. They need enough fall to drain, brackets close enough to stop sagging, and sealed joints and corners. Rust usually starts where water and leaves sit, so a gutter that never fully drains is the first to fail.
Downpipes
Downpipes carry the water from the gutter down to the stormwater drain. Too few, too small or blocked, and the gutter overflows even when it’s clean. A downpipe that ends above the ground or spills against the house needs reconnecting to the drain.
Rainheads & Sumps
A rainhead is the box at the top of a downpipe that takes water from a box gutter or roof outlet; a sump is the outlet in the gutter itself. When they block, water backs up fast, often into the roof. A good rainhead has an overflow to spill outside.
Box Gutters
Box gutters sit inside the roof line, between roofs or behind parapet walls, and drain through sumps and rainheads. They’re the gutters that cause indoor floods when they block. We clear and repair them; our roof plumber page covers them in more detail.
Common Gutter Problems We Fix
Most gutter problems show up in the first heavy rain after they start.
- Overflowing Gutters: Leaves in the gutter, a blocked downpipe, too few downpipes, or a gutter with the wrong fall so water pools instead of draining.
- Leaking Joints and Corners: Old sealant fails and joints start to drip, often right above a door or path.
- Rust Holes: Water and leaves left sitting in the gutter rust it from the inside out.
- Sagging Gutters: Brackets spaced too far apart, loose fixings, or a gutter so full of water and debris that it pulls itself down.
- Downpipes Spilling at the Ground: A downpipe that’s cracked, disconnected or blocked below ground floods the area around your slab.
- Water Running Behind the Gutter: When the gutter sits too low or the roof edge doesn’t reach into it, water runs down the back of the gutter and rots the fascia.
Fast Response Gutter and Downpipe Repairs
An overflowing gutter in a storm can push water into the eaves, through the ceiling near the walls and down against the slab. If that’s happening now, call us – we take emergency callouts 24/7, including weekends and public holidays, and you’ll talk to a local plumber, not a call centre. Our guide to a roof leaking after a storm covers what to do while you wait.
For everything else, send us the details and we’ll come back with a fixed price. Most jobs are quoted same day.

Our Simple Gutter Repair Process
Here’s what happens between your call and gutters that drain properly.
Step 1 – Contact Our Team
Call or book online and tell us what you’re seeing – overflow, drips, rust or a downpipe spilling at the ground.
Step 2 – Inspection
We check the gutters, downpipes and the connection to the stormwater drain to find the real cause.
Step 3 – Quote & Recommendation
We tell you whether a repair will do or replacement makes more sense, and give you a fixed price before any work starts.
Step 4 – Repair or Replace
We complete the work, clean up, and check water runs freely from the gutter to the drain before we leave.
Gutter Replacement Costs – What to Expect
Gutter replacement costs depend mostly on how many metres of gutter and downpipe are involved, the height and access – a single-storey home is quicker and safer to work on than a two-storey one – and the gutter profile and colour you need to match. Repairing a single joint or downpipe is a much smaller job.
What’s behind the gutter matters too. Rotten fascia boards need fixing before new gutter goes on, and a blocked stormwater drain needs clearing or the new gutters will still overflow. We explain all of that up front and agree a fixed price before we start, with no hidden fees.

Gutter & Downpipe Repairs FAQs
Repair them if the damage is limited to a joint, a corner or one short length and the rest of the gutter is sound. Replace them if there’s rust in several places, the gutter sags along its length or it leaks at most joints – at that point, patching costs more over time. We’ll tell you which once we’ve looked.
At least once a year, ideally before winter, and more often if your roof is under trees. Blocked gutters overflow in heavy rain and hold water against the metal, which speeds up rust. VICSES also lists keeping gutters, downpipes and drains clear as a way to get your home ready for storms.
Yes. Installing, replacing or altering gutters and downpipes is roofing (stormwater) work under the Plumbing Regulations 2018, which must be done by someone registered or licensed in that class. Cleaning gutters on its own isn’t plumbing work under those rules, but reconnecting or changing any part of the system is.
The usual causes are leaves in the gutter, a blocked downpipe or stormwater drain, too few downpipes for the size of the roof, or a gutter that doesn’t fall towards its outlets. In very heavy rain, a box gutter or valley without enough capacity can overflow too. Finding which one it is comes before any fix.
Often, yes. If the rest of the gutter is sound, a damaged length can be replaced and joined to the existing run. Older or less common gutter profiles can be harder to match, so if a new section won’t join neatly, we’ll explain the options before we start.
Into your property’s stormwater drain, not onto the ground beside the house. A downpipe that spills at the base of a wall keeps the soil around your footings and slab wet. If your downpipes run into a drain that’s blocked or broken underground, our stormwater drain service covers that.
Yes. Gutter cleaning is one of the gutter services we offer, and while we’re on the roof we check the downpipes, rainheads and box gutter outlets so you know whether anything else needs work. If something does, we’ll quote it before doing it.
